Since leaving Doctor Who, Christopher has appeared in films including Thor: The Dark World, GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra and The Leftover.
The father-of-two is most recently recognised for his role as grumpy grandad Maurice Scott in BBC’s The A Word.
Notoriously private about his personal life, Eccleston is rarely seen out with his family and often makes solo red carpet appearances on various occasions.
He has also appeared in films such as Elizabeth, Gone in 60 Seconds and The Others.
He said: “Prior to the children, acting was the most important thing in the world to me, and that’s a lot of pressure to put on a thing. They’ve taken the heat off and matured me and relaxed me.” He also told the Guardian earlier this year: "The more you do, the closer you are to your children and I’m enjoying every minute of it, "There are only 19 months between Albert and Esme and my wife, Mischka, and I like that – we hope they’ll always have each other." When asked about his divorce today, Mr Eccleston declined to comment.
Christopher Eccleston had a challenging job when he took on the role of Doctor Who.
Christopher, who is set to play Macbeth for the Royal Shakespeare Company from today, has since appeared in primetime dramas for the corporation.
But despite this, he insisted that he was forced to go to America after his agent told him to “get out of the country and wait for regime change.”He said: ”So I went away to America and I kept on working because that’s what my parents instilled in me."My dad always said to me: ‘I don’t care what you do – sweeping the floor or whatever you’re doing – just do the best job you can',” he added.
