Index word not updating
Instantly, Word updates the index to reference any new page numbers and include new marked index entries.Caption numbers will be out of order, if we move captions or deleting them throughout the editing process. How can we update or refresh the caption n umbers at once？Here are some simple and useful tips for updating or refreshing the caption numbers in Word. And I also suspected that something was happening with the field updating that can get messed up when track changes are on (see https://cybertext.wordpress.com/2009/10/16/word-macro-to-fix-track-changescross-references-issues/ for how to fix that). To confirm my suspicions, I copied a document that wouldn’t behave and put it into a testing area (so I wouldn’t mess up the original).Typically, the reason is that you’ve forgotten to update the TOC/LOT/LOF – these lists don’t update automatically. There are several ways you can update these lists, but the safest way that seems to work properly every time, is to use the ‘Update Table’ buttons on the References tab in Word. After accepting/rejecting the change, update the LOT/LOF and all should be well again. I’m not sure what causes this, but turning off Track Changes and updating the TOC/LOT/LOF should fix it.
To learn how to create a table of contents, see Create a table of contents.Step 2: Press F9 All the caption numbers will be updated.Alternatively, we can use VBA code to update or refresh the caption numbers. Step 1: Press “Alt-F11” to open the Microsoft Visual Basic for Application window; Step 2: Click Module on the Insert tab, copy and paste the following VBA code into the Module window; Step 3: Then click Run button to apply the VBA.I then accepted all track changes in the document and updated the List of Tables. All the tables that should have been listed originally were now listed correctly. If the table of contents was created manually (in other words, if it wasn't created automatically from the headings), Word won't be able to update it for you.
