Check it out, you don't need to belong to Face Book.
First of all a stunning tribute to our Veterans of D Day and all other theatres by Wes Ashton who has the SHADOWS OF OUR PAST Facebook page, well worth a visit. This image below is to me, one of the best, if not the best I have ever seen on this theme.
Peter of "Submerged Productions" was a huge inspiration to me in the late 1980s and early 1990s through his videos and fantastic "Wreckers Guide" books.
Peter inspired me and a host of others including my then very young son, Dom.
Next is another busy and hectic scene on the pebble beach of MOUNT BATTEN to the east of PLYMOUTH with STAMFORD FORT looking down from above.
Now we are going to but a ticket on the public foot ferry from TURNCHAPEL, across the CATTEWATER to PHOENIX WHARF, PLYMOUTH, even today you can do this trip, but with a slightly different pick up and put down location.
Recently a hoard of WORLD WAR 2 no 76 SIP grenades were found in busy Plymouth, that cased traffic chaos......here.
I am putting most of my new stuff, and there is LOADS!!!
Here is 1968 photo of Plymouth City Centre taken from Cattedown and Victoria Wharves.
Note railway trucks on OCEAN QUAY which is now Mayflower Marina. Ultra hi res scan from a contact print off a glass plate negative by Jonathan Hill.
BARN POOL, GARDEN BATTERY, MOUNT WISE, STONEHOUSE POOL, WESTERN& EASTERN KINGS and the PLYMOUTH hinterland behind.
Off to PENLEE POINT now in SE Cornwall, note the steam powered foghorn and the large concrete steps that formed part of the landing stage for the guns at PENLEE BATTERY.
Lastly one of my favorite areas, BRIDGEND between NEWTON FERRERS and NOSS MAYO near PLYMOUTH, DEVON. Very high res photo of BOVISAND and FORT BOVISAND and the STADDON HEIGHT DEFENCES from c1930/40s.
